Kahsi Keyz is a child prodigy who started playing piano at age 4. His father placed him in front of his first electric keyboard in kindergarten and in a few shorts weeks Kahsi had learned “pomp and circumstance” the graduation song for the tiny graduates. Kahsi’s dad has been quoted as saying “Kahsi can hear a bird sing and play along with its melody”
Kahsi was reared in the AME church and was thoroughly immersed into gospel music with an emphasis on old hymns and Negro spirituals. His playing quickly garnered the attention of many older players and at age 9, he was offered his first position as the musician for a newly formed church on Glenwood road in Decatur, Ga. Over the next few decades, this virtuoso gained tons of knowledge and served as the Minister of Music for several prominent churches in the Atlanta area.
In his 20’s, Kahsi began experimenting with the Hammond B3 organ and his extensive knowledge of church hymns got him the attention of several funeral homes in the Metro Atlanta area. He currently serves on staff at Willie Watkins and Dortch-Willamson mortuaries to name a couple as a house organist/ pianist.
As Kahsi’s skills and God-given gifts continued to manifest themselves, he started to branch out from the church and began exploring other genres of music including jazz, r&b, blues, neo-soul, and funk. In 2002 He formed his own jazz quartet called the K&F Band (Kahsi and Friends). and in 2008, the K&F Band was invited to Washington D.C. to play for an Inaugural Ball for President Barack Obama.
Kahsi believes that the most precious gift you can give someone is your time. In 2018 he started his “Street Philanthropy” initiative as a way of giving back to his community through his love of music and the arts. Kahsi throws free concerts every summer at several different neighborhoods in Atlanta, GA
